Beyond the Farmgate: Exploring supply chain needs for diverse agroecological systems

As part of the Oxford Real Farming Conference, the Organic Research Centre and Sustain: the alliance for better food and farming will run a session to explore what the opportunities for creating better supply chains in the UK are; including discussing the role of social networks in enabling collaboration across food systems and how this can be facilitated in local contexts.

The session will be run as a people’s assembly with presentations from a farmer, food business and trader offering perspectives on areas such as infrastructure needs, building social capital, and enabling agroecology through farmer-focused supply chains. This will be followed by discussion in breakout groups to explore personal experiences of barriers in individuals’ region/sector, what is needed from local markets to help farmers transition to agroecological production systems and ideas around how to build collaborative and local networks. We will synthesise key next steps and actions to deliver change - building on the research outcomes of DiverIMPACTS, Sustain’s Beyond the Farmgate report, and the wider experiences of the stakeholders that gather.
